Messages, News and Events A Valentine Message The month of February is upon us and traditionally we look at this month as the "Heart Month". It is the time when we pay more attention to those who are close to our hearts not only in matters of affection but also in matters of bodily function. As in the past, the Terre Haute Heart Center looks at February as an opportunity to refocus our attention to matters of health, specially heart health. We believe that preventive medicine is the best way of managing heart conditions. We would rather see you before actual damage to the heart occurs. It is therefore a perfect time to take advantage of the One Day Heart Evaluation Program. All Work and No Play Dr. Primo Andres and his wife, Sylvia, were introduced to the under-the-surface-of-the-sea-world by their good friends, Dr. Thomas Black and his wife, Lynn, in 1998 and the world has not looked the same in their eyes since then. To their pleasant surprise, they found out that their native home, the Philippines, is one of the best places to SCUBA dive in the world. In their latest visit in December, 2003, they lost no time in going to Apo Island in south-central Philippines to explore and enjoy the riches of the sea. A sampling of the Apo Island coral reef is in a permanent display at the Shedd Aquarium of Chicago, Illinois close to the Museum of Natural History and the Soldier Field Football Stadium. Go and get a glimpse of how the world down there looks like! Extra Duty Dr. Primo Andres was elected President of his alma mater’s alumni association. The University of Santo Tomas Medical Alumni Association in America has a membership of ~ 6000 physicians scattered all through out the United States. This has added more demand to his already hectic schedule but he considers this as an appropriate opportunity to pay back the school that provided him with the best medical education he could get. His term will end in June, 2004 in a convention at the Bellagio in Las Vegas when he will turn over the reign of the organization to Dr. Noel Canlas, a Gastroenterologist from Henderson, Kentucky. Mission Statement The Terre Haute Heart Center is committed to the prevention, treatment, and management of heart and vascular diseases through application of modern techniques in the field of cardiovascular medicine. It considers the patient as its partner and patient-education is therefore an essential part of its management regimen.
